In this season of Thanksgiving, it is customary to reflect on the many blessings for which we are thankful. I am so grateful for our dedicated teachers and staff, our supportive parents, and especially for our students who make it a joy to come to work each day.
I'd like to take this opportunity to share with out families the news that P.S. 153 received a grade of "B" on our school's Progress Report. The results reflected on the Progress Report were greatly impacted by the drop in the student scores on the New York State ELA and Math exams taken last spring. Those scores created a baseline and we fully expect our scores to increase this coming year. With that goal in mind, our teachers put forth much time and effort in planning and differentiating instruction for their students. Many are here when school opens at 7:00AM and stay way past dismissal and into the evening to ensure that their instruction addresses your child's needs. It is difficult work, made more challenging as class size increases. They need and appreciate parental support. Education is a partnership between teacher, parents, and student. Open positive learning environment for our students. We encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity to communicate with your child's teacher. Our parent coordinator, Mrs. Susan Yanez, is also available to address any issues or concerns you may have. She may be reached by phone at 347-563-4174 or you may stop in at her office which is located off the main lobby.
We are very proud of our school and know that our entire school community will work together to help our students succeed. The full Progress Report and the results of the Learning Environment Survey are available on our web site. You can access the site through the New York City Department of Education web site or by going to: http://schools.nyc.gov/SchoolPortals/24/Q153 - just click on "Statistics."
By working together, and each doing our part, we will provide our students with a firm foundation for the future.
